About the Book:

I’ve never been particularly comfortable with the random
parts of life. Like my character Caleb Jorde, in Random Acts, I would prefer to
know what’s coming in life and to be afforded with plenty of opportunity to
structure my world into clear emotional categories in order to prepare. That
way I’d be ready for any tragedy and any joy. For anything and everything life
could toss my way—this girl would be prepared.

it’s best to savor the awesome moments as they occur, and to deal with the
hardships on a need to be dealt with basis. Maybe life can be random and maybe

When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
When I was in fifth grade I remember telling my class
that I wanted to be a writer or a magician. I ended up becoming a middle school
social studies teacher. I will admit, I loved the kids, but I was obsessed by
creating unique and compelling lesson plans that engaged my students minds—as
well as many of their skills in art, cooking, music, drama, etc. So, again I
considered whiting a book for geography teachers filled with lesson plans
designed to bring our beautiful world to life.

I had a ten year career as a middle school social
studies/English teacher and then spent the next twenty years at home, raising
my four children. And during that time, in my mid-forties, I started writing YA
and adult gay romance. I couldn’t stop now if I tried.

Who inspired you to become a writer?
My older sister inspired me to become a writer. She is my
role model. I emulated her all my life. And she wrote a book that I beta read
about five years ago, so I picked up my own pen and wrote my own. Beggars and

What book are you reading right now?
Right now I am beta reading Michael Bowler’s contemporary
thriller, Spinner, as well as Amy Lane’s serial Beneath the Stain.

What did you like the most about writing your own book?
I like making my characters bestow upon each other
selfless love. I can make their love almost worshipful. I can separate them and
bring them back together so beautifully. That’s what I like the most.

cheer every victory in marital equality. What are your hopes in this area?

Equality. Not just marital equality, although that is
critical, but equality of all people in all areas. If you are entitled to a
right, I am entitled to that right and we all are entitled to that right.

growth of troubled young men and their relationships, and she believes that sex
has a place in a love story, but not until it is firmly established as a love
story. As a teen, Mia filled spiral-bound notebooks with romantic tales of
tortured heroes (most of whom happened to strongly resemble lead vocalists of
1980s big-hair bands) and stuffed them under her mattress for safekeeping. She
is thankful to Dreamspinner Press for providing her with an alternate place to
stash her stories.
Mia is proud of her involvement with the
Human Rights Campaign and cheers for each and every victory made in the name of
marital equality. Her only major regret: never having taken typing or computer
class in school, destining her to a life consumed with two-fingered pecking and
constant prayer to the Gods of Technology.
