I’ve known every kind of pain. Of the heart. Of the body. Of the soul. All I want now is the freedom that comes from making my art.
The last thing I expected was Hollywood royalty to waltz into my gallery in a small town in the middle of nowhere and see me.
A man like Boden Cavanaugh shouldn’t understand me. Shouldn’t be able to soothe my most ragged edges. Even worse, he makes me want the one thing I can’t have. Him.
All it takes is one spark, and friendship catches flame. But as our attraction burns bright, there are forces desperate to send us back into the darkness. And they’ve already killed before…

I’ve been a huge fan of Catherine Cowles writing for a while now. And I’ve read every single book in the Tattered and Torn series. And let me tell you this series is definitely an emotional rollercoaster. Every single book has his own emotional story and I for one couldn’t wait to start reading this one. So when I could I dived right in.

In ‘Shattered Sea’ we read the story of Laiken and Boden. Laiken works at an art gallery in the small mountain town where she grew up. Years ago she was in a horrible accident that changed her life. Now all she wants is to enjoy her art, and make things better for the people she cares about. The last thing she expects is for Hollywood star Boden to arrive in her small town. And although their lives couldn’t be more different, soon Laiken and Boden connect over so much more than just the small town they are in.

After reading several books by Catherine Cowles, you kind of start to expect emotional stories, but every time she still surprises me. And not in a bad way! Laiken and Boden’s story was so beautiful and touching, I simply couldn’t put it down after I started. And it was a story that I kept thinking about when I wasn’t able to read it.

Both main characters have been through something life altering, and they connect because it. As with every couple written by Catherine, the romance is amazing as well. I was rooting for these two from the start. And although I might have felt like the whole Hollywood star part didn’t fit Boden’s character at times, I loved how these characters started to feel like ‘friends’ to me.

‘Shattered Sea’ was another emotional, touching and heartbreaking story I really enjoyed. I loved how I was both relieved, sad to have finished this read and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
