One office. Two enemies. And a secret he CANNOT find out…
You know that post vacation glow? Where you’re all sun kissed and optimistic and determined to make changes in your life?
Well, mine lasted for about five minutes. Until I walked into the office and saw Myles Salinger sitting in my boss’s chair.
One look at his scowling face was enough to make me want to fly straight back to Europe. And no, he’s not getting any of the donuts I brought it for the team. He doesn’t deserve them.
You see, on paper he’s my contemporary. But in reality he’s been my workplace nemesis for the last two years.
Lucky for us we’re usually separated by five hundred miles.
But now he’s here in my face, throwing his impressive weight around and driving everybody crazy with his demands.
Especially me.
Good thing he doesn’t know the big decision I made while I was away.
That I’m going to try for a baby. Alone.
If he ever finds out he’ll never let me hear the end of it.
So let’s keep it between us. Okay?

Carrie Elks is one of those authors I’ve just loved every single book I read of. So when I received an ARC of Strictly Business, I got super excited. Not only do I love that cover, but I also just loved the sound of this one. So when I got the opportunity to start reading, I dived right in.

In ‘Strictly Business’ we meet Ava Quinn. Ava is in her late thirties and works at a publishing house for children’s books. After a much needed vacation, where Ava made a life altering decision, she comes back to work hopeful and excited. But when Ava sees her colleague from New York Miles standing in the office, she knows things are going to become a lot less exciting. From the moment Ava and Miles met a few months back, they have disliked each other. Luckily they mostly only had to interact through conference calls, but things are about to change.

From the moment I started reading ‘Strictly Business’ I was hooked. I don’t know if it’s the late thirty bit, but I got some major Bridget Jones vibes from this book and loved it from beginning till end. The two main characters Ava and Myles where very easy to love. Even though they started out really disliking each other, there was something about them I just couldn’t resist. And I loved the fact that they where a bit older than the usual characters in a romance novel. These guys where more my age and I loved them.

Ava is this hardworking, kind and just very loveable female character. She works at this children’s publishing house, and has just made this big decision for herself. Everyone likes here, except for Myles.. her grumpy but very handsome colleague. So when she is forced to spend more time with him, she doesn’t really know what to expect and how to act. And she certainly didn’t expect him to tell her what he did. I loved it!

Myles character had a lot of mystery about him. But honestly I just loved everything about him right from the start.  And in the end I absolutely adored Myles. The chemistry between him and Ava was amazing and I completely fell in love with their story. And when we read about the other Salinger brothers, Myles’s brothers.. I know I’m going to love them too.

‘Strictly Business’ was a fun, romantic read that was also just very original. I loved everything about these characters and I can’t wait to read more books in this series.

About Carrie Elks

Carrie Elks writes contemporary romance with a sizzling edge. Her first book, Fix You, has been translated into eight languages and made a surprise appearance on Big Brother in Brazil. Luckily for her, it wasn’t voted out. Carrie lives with her husband, two lovely children and a larger-than-life black pug called Plato. When she isn’t writing or reading, she can be found baking, drinking an occasional (!) glass of wine, or chatting on social media.
