Review 'A Winter's Tale' by Carrie Elks
Struggling film student Kitty Shakespeare is determined to make the most of her new job as nanny to major producer Everett Klein's son, Jonas. It might not be exactly the career she'd hoped for when she moved from London to LA, but thanks to her habit of freezing up in interviews, this is her last chance to impress a key player in Hollywood - if she can get this right, then surely he'll take a moment to look at her work. However, what Kitty hasn't allowed for is Everett's sexy-as-hell brother, Adam - but love at first sight this is not.

Adam Klein may be sexy, but he's also gruff and rude and in no way ready to make a fool of himself over the nanny - not after the year he's had. All he wants to do hole up in his cabin and hide from the brother who destroyed his life. If only he could find it easier to ignore the way Kitty makes his heart race . . .

As Christmas approaches, Kitty and Adam come to realise that the course of true love never does run smooth - and just maybe, it's more interesting that way...

A heartwarming Shakespeare Sisters Christmas romance from the bestselling author of Fix You.

My Review:

I read ‘Summer’s Lease’, the first book in the Shakespeare Sisters series in June and I devoured it. I truly loved that book! So when I heard that ‘A Winter’s Tale’, the second book in the Shakespeare Sisters series came out with a Christmas theme, my favorite holiday, I was beyond excited. And I was over the moon when I received an email with the question if I wanted to read this book. And when I received it, I started reading immediately.

In ‘A Winter’s Tale’ we meet Kitty Shakespeare. Kitty is the youngest of the Shakespeare sisters. Kitty has been living in L.A. for almost a year. It has been her dream as a film student to make it in the big city. But Kitty is struggling to get a new internship. Desperate Kitty accepts a job as nanny to major producer Everett Klein’s son, Jonas. This way Kitty hopes to impress the producer enough he considers her for internship. But when Kitty arrives in the cold and snow covered Blue Ridge Mountains she isn’t prepared for Everett Klein’s brother Adam. Adam is tall and handsome, but incredible rude to Kitty. But still, Kitty doesn’t seem to be able to forget him.

Well, I love books with a Christmas theme, and I loved the first book in this series so this book should be perfect for me. And it was. I loved every single page and I read it in a day. Kitty’s character is one I really loved. Kitty is a kind of shy, hardworking, beautiful, strong and a little na├»ve. And it was really fun to read about her. When Kitty met Adam she was completely in awe of him, even though he was really unkind. But being the good person she was, she tried to be kind to him and those first interactions between Kitty and Adam were really fun to read. I loved the way Kitty seemed to be in complete shock about someone like Adam liking her. I could honestly hear her say ‘You do?’ in my ear. Loved it!

Adam isn’t really a bad guy, but he has been through something terrible and after someone from his family betrayed him he doesn’t seem to be able to get past it. He leaves everything behind, and starts living in this cabin in the cold Blue Ridge Mountains. Adam is done with people and just wants to be left alone. But Kitty knocks him of his feet. And I loved being able to read this book from both his point of view and that of Kitty’s.

The romance and chemistry between Kitty and Adam was amazing and I loved reading every single page of ‘A Winter’s Tale’. The scenery the author described was gorgeous and I definitely got this wintery Christmas feel while reading this book. This book definitely is another great one and I can’t wait to read the next book in this amazing series.

My Favorite.. Museum

My Favorite.. is a weekly meme hosted by Maureen’s Books. In this meme we share every week something we love with each other. Because let’s face it.. The world can be a dark place and it’s time to share something positive. For more info and the upcoming subjects visit the My Favorite Meme. page.

Thanks to my mom I grew up visiting museums and appreciating art. My mom loves everything about art. She has done several history of art classes, and although I’m not as crazy about art as she is, I do love visiting museums. And over the years I’ve visited many museums. But I definitely have one favorite: The British Museum in London.

When my husband and I visited London for the first time in May of 2015 one of the things I really wanted to do was visit the British Museum. Not only because I heard from my mom how amazing it was, but also because I really wanted to see the Sunflowers by Van Gogh and I wanted to visit this beautiful looking building. And when I did visit the British Museum I was completely in awe. It’s such a gorgeous museum. The art is amazing and the building just feels magical.. I loved it.

And I loved that the British Museum is free for visitors. Not that I don’t want to pay for it, I even made sure I bought some souvenirs to make up for that part, but just the way this gives everyone the opportunity to look at all those pretty pieces of art. I definitely think more museums should be like that.

What is your favorite museum?

Sunday Post #73: Hogwarts Express POP

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ Its a chance to share news ~ A Post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

This week has been one of those were I wonder where the time went! Crazy really! Last weekend we had a great time on our trip to The Hague. The hotel was gorgeous, the room was very luxurious, we had some great food and drinks, it was a lot of fun with our friends and I had a fun time shopping. If you follow me on Instagram you may also have seen my Hogwarts Express POP I got. I love it!! It was just a great weekend, and it went by way to fast.

Monday and Tuesday it was back to work for me. Traffic has been crazy lately and I’m missing the warmer days when I was able to go to work with my scooter. I do seem to go through my audiobooks pretty fast though, so that’s one positive point about these traffic jams.
On Tuesday after work one of my colleagues went home with me for dinner and to watch our Wedding Pictures. We had a really fun evening.

Wednesday and Thursday where my days off. I went to visit my mom, which was a lot of fun like always, and on Thursday I did some blogging and listened to Christmas music. I just love this time of year!! BTW.. Happy Thanksgiving to my American visitors. I hope you had a great day.

And from Friday till next Wednesday I’m working again. But I can’t complain. My husband and I almost have a week vacation. I can’t wait.

Books & Blogging:

This week I did some work for Maureen’s Books Promotions. I have two Book Promo’s that are open for Sign-Ups. One is for December 14th, and the other is for a 10 daylong event in January. If you guys have a spot free I would love it if you could sign up. (Just click the pic below for more info.)

As they cross swords and passions mount, Oriel is aware that malevolent eyes watch her from the shadows. Dark rumours are whispered about the Lekkas family. What dangers lie in Helios, a bewitching land where ancient rituals are still enacted to appease the gods, young men risk their lives in the treacherous depths of the Ionian Sea, and the volatile earth can erupt at any moment?

Will Oriel find the hidden treasures she seeks? Or will Damian’s tragic past catch up with them, threatening to engulf them both?

Things I'm Grateful For

First of all I’d like to say Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends. I hope you all have a great day with lots of amazing food and the people you love around you. I’m already jealous of all those gorgeous looking recipes that are being made and shared on Social Media. LOL!! Have fun and be thankful.

Although I live in the Netherlands and we obviously don’t celebrate Thanksgiving today, since it’s an annual holiday in the United States, I found myself thinking about all those things I’m thankful for. And in a world that’s sometimes very hard and brutal, it can be nice to think of the things your grateful for and I’d like to share a view of those things with you.

I'm grateful for my husband. Without him I would not be here today, doing what I love, believing in myself and having in faith in our love. He is my rock, my hero and the love of my life and I’m thankful I now can say I’m his wife.

I’m grateful for my beautiful strong mother and her kind loving man. I’m grateful they found each other, and I get to see them happy. And I’m grateful to be their daughter.

I’m grateful for my family and family-in-law. Although we are not your run-of-the-mill family I’m grateful for you and for the things we get to share together. Life is definitely interesting with all of you.

I’m grateful for my job as a Nurse. I’m grateful I get to help people in their roughest moments.  Although it’s sometimes hard, I am thankful I get to be a Nurse and meet so many different people and learn little bits and pieces about their lives.

And, I’m grateful for people that inspire me to be a better person. People around me, but also people across the world who I only know through social media. Even though there are some crazy people out there, getting so see, read, watch all of you guys gives me hope for this world.

Happy Thanksgiving!

My Favorite.. Romance Story

My Favorite.. is a weekly meme hosted by Maureen’s Books. In this meme we share every week something we love with each other. Because let’s face it.. The world can be a dark place and it’s time to share something positive. For more info and the upcoming subjects visit the My Favorite Meme. page.

I am a big Romance lover. Ever since I was a little girl, I could easily drift away dreaming about Prince Charming, fairytales, happy endings etc. And because of that I read a lot of romance novels, and watched a lot of romantic movies. And although I can think of many romance stories there is one that I thought of immediately when I wrote down this topic: the story of Allie and Noah in the Notebook by Nicholas Sparks.

I read ‘The Notebook’ by Nicholas Sparks and I watched the movie several times and I just love this story. It’s a beautiful story, nothing impossibly good, but honest and real and I think it’s one of the most amazing romantic stories I’ve ever read or seen.

“I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough..”

Sigh.. Just reading this particular part again makes me swoon. There is just something so pure about this story and I love it. It’s so romantic!! I think what I loved most is how much Allie and Noah loved each other. Although it took them a long time to get their happy ending, they never stopped thinking or loving each other. And although the ending isn’t perfect, it is romantic and real.

What is your favorite romance story?

The Sunday Post #72: Weekend Trip

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ Its a chance to share news ~ A Post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

I’m writing this on Friday morning because we are going on a trip this weekend. And I’m super excited. We are going to Den Haag, or The Hague it’s called in English. The Hague is a city on the western coast of the Netherlands and we are going with two friends. We booked two rooms in the Hilton there. And I’m super excited. We got this great deal on a beautiful hotel room there and we’re are leaving around 10 a.m. this morning, till Sunday. My husband and his best friend are going to this international Whiskey event today till 5 p.m. and while I’m waiting on my husband’s best friends girlfriend (LOL!! Do you still follow?) I’m going to browse the beautiful book stores there. She will be here in the afternoon, so I’ll have some time. And we will go out to dinner, and just have a lot of fun this weekend. So I won’t be blogging at least till Sunday evening.

This week was pretty slow. I worked the final four days of my six dayshifts in a row and I was completely exhausted. But it was a good week!

Books & Blogging:

Blogging wise I’ve tried to visit as many as you guys as I could possible squeeze in. I’m still not completely satisfied, so I’ll try to do more this week. It’s a challenge sometimes with working full time as a nurse, starting my promotion business, doing house work and spending time with my husband.. But I’ll find my way soon! :D

This week another Sign-Up went life for Maureen’s Books Promotions. It’s a Book Promo for ‘Grigori: A Royal Dragon Romance’ by Lauren Smith. ‘Grigori’ is a Paranormal Romance novel and the promo will be for December 14th. If you have a spot left, I would love it if you could sign up!

Next week there will be another Sign-Up ready to go. It’s for a ten day event in January and I’m super excited about it. Keep your eyes open for the sign up! ;)

I also updated my 'My Favorite' list for 2018. So check it out if you're interested!

So things are going pretty good. I’ve been reading in the late hours of the evenings, and I’m definitely feeling like I’m completely back in reading paradise. LOL!! I should stop requesting book on Netgalley though. My TBR is getting to damn long!! Sigh..

How was your week? What did you read?

Adventures in Nursing #4: The Moment That Changed Me

Next to being a book blogger and a fanatic reader I work fulltime as a Nurse in an Academic Hospital in the Netherlands. Since being a nurse is such a big part of my life I decided it’s time to share some of my adventures in nursing here on my blog.

Sometimes working as nurse can be very hard. And I’ve had several moments where I wondered for who I was doing it all for. When I was yelled at, puked over, pied on. It’s just something that comes with working as a nurse. We all go through it.
A view months ago something happened to me that almost made me want to quit nursing all together. Scary really. That moment changed me. And still, months later I am not the same person I was before.

I was working the nightshift. Something that I didn’t mind at all. In the weekends we used to stand with two nurses on 34 patients max. It’s a busy shift, and sometimes it’s not a big deal because most of your patients sleep. But most times it’s really hard work because people tend to be awake a lot. When I started this particular nightshift one of my patients, a man I also took care of the night before, was standing in the middle of the hallway.  This was not supposed to be possible. He had several IV’s, and he hadn’t been out of bed since his accident. Well, now he had no lines and had this wild look in his eyes.

My patient was very angry, convinced that we were there to hurt him and he didn’t want to listen. Thankfully my colleagues of the evening shift were still there and they tried to help me get the man in his bed. Unfortunately he was very strong and tall, and he didn’t believe us for one moment. When he kicked me, my colleagues immediately took hold of him and put him down in a chair. We already called some guards and they were helping us keep him calm. And for a while it seemed to work. My colleagues from the evening shift went home, and me, my nightshift colleague and two guards stayed with this patient while we waited on a doctor.

The man was extremely aggressive and in the end I also got hit, got urine thrown in my face and I was told he would murder me several times. In the meanwhile other patients were awake too of course and I tried to keep them calm and happy while I waited on more doctors and the patient’s wife.
Well.. he didn’t recognize his wife and he didn’t believe he was in the hospital.

After four very long hours we were able to help the patient get back to sleep. And when he woke up he couldn’t remember a thing of what happened. He felt scared, because he found himself in another room with a lot of broken stuff surrounding him and he had a lot of pain because we weren’t able to give him a lot of painkillers since we couldn’t come close to him.
At the end of my shift I tried to console my patient. But the truth was I was scared out of my mind for the man. As a professional I know that he doesn’t remember a thing, and didn’t mean to hurt me. But as a human being I felt terrible, scared, violated and angry. I became a nurse because I wanted to help people. And when I did just that I was hurt.

Now, months later I’m doing much better. I’m doing my job as a nurse, and I enjoy it most of the time. I’ve worked some nightshifts and I’ve talked with my husband, coworkers and boss about this memorable shift. People don’t always seem to understand what this night did with me. But I understand now that I can’t expect them too. I have witnessed violence in my past before. And that’s why this situation was probably harder to me than for others. Angry people have always scared me. And this situation just made that a little worse.

I’m still not back to being the nurse I was before this happened, and maybe I will never be. But I can see now that this situation was not because of me. It was not my fault. My patient didn’t mean to hurt me. He was just sick and needed help.

When I was a little girl, I wanted to become a nurse.. It has been my dream.. and I will find my way back.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.
These views are based on my own experiences and my own interpretations in my life as a nurse.

My Favorite.. Fairy Tale

My Favorite.. is a weekly meme hosted by Maureen’s Books. In this meme we share every week something we love with each other. Because let’s face it.. The world can be a dark place and it’s time to share something positive. For more info visit the My Favorite Meme. page.

Growing up I loved fairy tales, and I still do. That’s one of the reasons why I have a tattoo with Once Upon A Time on my back. I love being swept away by fairy tales. I love that in fairytales every story has a happy end. Not really realistic maybe, but it has always made me feel hopeful. Hopeful that things will work out in the end, the road may not be easy.. but it will be okay.

When I was younger I watched, probably like everyone of my age,  a lot the Disney fairytales. And my favorite fairy tale would definitely have to be ‘Beauty and the Beast’. And after that Thumbelina! I just love those fairy tales, even now! But there are many more fairy tales I loved.. Peter Pan, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty and many more. I still watch them on tv and read them whenever I can. There’s just something magical about fairy tales.

Here are two of my favorite songs from my favorite fairy tales. Just to make your day a little better :) :

What is your favorite fairy tale?
