Review 'Instinct' by Sherrilyn Kenyon in the gripping YA spin-off series of Sherrilyn Kenyon's No. 1 New York Times bestselling Dark-Hunter series. 'Instinct' is the compelling, thrilling, unforgettable tale of one boy's journey towards his ultimate destiny.

Zombies, demons, vampires, shapeshifters- another day in the life of Nick Gautier- and those are just his friends. But now that he's accepted the demon that lives inside him, he must learn to control it and temper the very emotions that threaten the lives of everyone he cares for. Something that's hard to do while trying to stay off the menus of those who want his head on a platter. And no one wants him more than the dark gods who created his race. Now that they know where he is, they will stop at nothing to reclaim him. And without knowing it, Nick has just embraced the one person he should never have trusted. The one person who will hand him over to his enemies to get back the life they lost.

Nick has finally accepted his fate, now he must learn to defy his destiny, and the dark, deadly forces that will stop at nothing to destroy everyone he loves so that they can again return to the world of man and own it.

My Review:

In the last view months I’ve read two of Sherrilyn Kenyons’s books. I really enjoyed those books, so when I got the opportunity to read ‘Instinct’ by Sherrilyn Kenyon I was really excited. This is the sixth book in the Chronicles of Nick series, and since I haven’t read any of the previous books before, I was a little scared that I wouldn’t get this book. But I really wanted to try it, and I heard it could be read as a standalone, so I started reading.

In ‘Instinct’ Nick Gautier is trying to get used to a life with a demon inside of him. The demon that lives inside him most be controlled so Nick won’t endanger the lives of the people he cares about. But this isn’t very easy to do since there are a lot of people against Nick. Now Nick doesn’t only have to learn to control a part of himself, but he also needs to learn who he can trust. And that isn’t easy to do when enemies are all around you.

Well, I must admit I didn’t really get this book all the time. I really should have read the first five books before reading this one, because maybe I would have gotten this book much better. For example all those different words like Malachai and the Mavromino. I just couldn’t follow what it was all about because I was just too busy figuring out what was going on, and who everybody was.

Still, the way Sherrilyn Kenyon writes her books is very entertaining. Her characters are well developed and there are definitely some fun and intense parts in this book.  There is this whole world going on and this book definitely made me interested in finding out more about this world. I really need to read the other books, because I don’t recommend this book as a standalone.
